STORIES - New Designer: Yvonne Leon

Paris-born designer Yvonne Léon creates jewellery that goes beyond beauty, each piece begins with a story, a memory, or a fleeting detail from everyday life. Her love for vintage infuses her designs with soul, while vivid emeralds and charming imperfections add depth and character. In a world shifting toward individuality, craftsmanship, and sustainability, Yvonne Léon’s creations stand as wearable art that tells personal stories.
How do you usually start a new design?
I always start with a story or an emotion I want to capture. Sometimes it’s a memory, a place, or even a small detail I’ve noticed in everyday life, like a texture, a shape, or an animal’s movement. I sketch a lot, and I love letting my imagination roam freely before refining the idea into something wearable. The goal is to create a piece that feels both personal and timeless.

You describe yourself as having a vintage crave. What’s the most incredible vintage piece you’ve ever discovered and how did it inspire you?
I once came across an old pocket watch from the early 20th century, with a face slightly faded by time and tiny imperfections that made it utterly unique. It wasn’t just an object, it felt like a fragment of someone’s life, carrying invisible memories. That discovery sparked my love for integrating vintage elements into my creations, giving them a soul and a sense of history before they even find their new owner.
Do you have a favorite stone to design with, not for its value, but for its personality?
Emeralds have always fascinated me. Their green is alive, almost breathing, and each one seems to hold a secret within. They’re not perfect stones, in fact, their inclusions are part of their charm, but that’s exactly what makes them captivating. They have a raw elegance that inspires me to create pieces with character and depth.
How have you seen the jewellery world evolve over the past few years and where do you think it’s headed?
Jewellery has shifted from being a symbol of status to becoming a true expression of identity. Clients now look for pieces that feel like an extension of themselves, something personal, sometimes even intimate. I believe the future lies in craftsmanship, sustainability, and individuality, with jewellery becoming more like wearable art, telling stories rather than simply adorning.
