STORIES - Geodes: Hidden treasures

On the outside, it looks nothing special. A rough, matte stone, inconspicuous in colour. But once opened, the geode reveals its secret: a brilliant interior full of crystals, formed over centuries in the darkness. This natural wonder captures the imagination and today finds its way into the world of high-end jewellery.
What is a geode?
Geodes are hollow rocks lined inside with crystals. They are formed when a cavity is created in volcanic rock, for example by gas bubbles in lava. That cavity may later accumulate minerals that form crystals such as quartz and amethyst. This can take millions of years. Each geode is unique. It is unpredictable, a true work of art by nature, formed without human intervention.
Geodes in jewellery design
In the hands of Belgian designer Karolin Van Loon, geodes are transformed into refined luxury. She gives this stone a central place in her collections. She personally travels to Mexico to select the perfect agate geodes; each stone has something special, something unique. Each one with character. Karolin Van Loon combines these natural stones with 18-carat gold and diamonds.
A new form of luxury
Authenticity and character are increasingly important; geodes bring a rugged, organic beauty in contrast to the polished nature of traditional gemstones. With their unexpected colours, textures and shapes, Karolin Van Loon's collection at byJACKY is perfect for those looking for a statement ring or something extraordinary.
